Pain in the ass though when it's windy outside and the struts are old and weak and it keeps crashing down onto your head while you're trying to work

Problem solved. Either that or purchase new struts. These shouldn't be that expensive I believe. What model do you have exactly?

Yeah I had a piece of wood propping it up. It's a 530i.

When all the important mechanical stuff is sorted and the rust issues are under control, I was actually thinking about doing the same. It just looks "fresh" and "precious".
